Welcome to J-STORIES channel, a source of solutions offered from Japan that could help solve some of the social and environmental problems in the world.

In this video, J-STORIES’ Managing Editor Toshi Maeda and Editorial Advisor Katsuro Kitamatsu discuss how the solution-oriented bilingual media was born and what it aims to achieve.

Maeda is a former Tokyo-based producer and correspondent at Reuters news agency, while Kitamatsu is a former representative director of Reuters News and Media Japan, K.K.   

<Editorial Team profiles>

 – Toshi Maeda, Managing Editor

Former producer for Reuters TV. From 1997, he worked as a reporter for the Japan Times, mainly covering politics and security. In 2002, he moved to the U.S. where he worked as a reporter for The Associated Press in San Francisco, Newsday in New York, and The Desert Sun in Palm Springs. After returning to Japan in 2005, he joined the Reuters Tokyo Bureau. As a TV producer and correspondent, he reported on news from Japan and Asia for international audiences and broadcasters. In 2010, he founded Pacific Bridge Media & Consulting, Inc., in Tokyo. He is a graduate of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.

Former head of Reuters Japan. In 1976, he joined Japan’s leading business daily, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, where he served as Toronto bureau chief and deputy director of the European editorial bureau based in London. In 2002, he joined Reuters Japan (now Reuters News and Media Japan K.K.), where he served as editor of Reuters Japanese News service. He has also served as manager of News Development, IFR Bureau Chief Japan, and managing editor of Reuters Japanese News.

Toshi Maeda

A multilingual journalist with over 25 years of experience in the media industry, Maeda worked as a producer and correspondent for Reuters TV in Tokyo after stints as a reporter at The Japan Times, The Associated Press in San Francisco, Newsday in New York, and The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, California. Maeda has also taught journalism at Komazawa University’s Faculty of Global Media Studies. Currently, he serves as executive editor for solutions-focused bilingual news platform J-Stories, a PBMC media outlet.
